Description

To replace the Canadian mammals definitive set first introduced in 1988, a new series of medium-value definitive stamps featuring fruit trees in Canada made its debut on December 27, 1991. No mention of Canadian fruit trees would be complete without the apple, and in particular the McIntosh apple. Discovered in 1811 by accident on John McIntosh's homestead in Dundela, Ontario, it has been called the "apple of apples". It is known for its beautiful and unique red robe, uniform in shape and size.
